Team India suffered a crushing defeat in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) last week. Pat Cummins-led Australia steamrolled India by 209 runs at The Oval. Rohit Sharma’s men came up short in both departments – batting and bowling. Skipper Rohit failed with the bat and could not lead from the front either. Shubman Gill appeared to be overwhelmed with the occasion and was found wanting against the Aussie pace battery. Virat Kohli scored a gritty 49 in the fourth innings, but he failed to come up with a match-winning knock. Cheteshwar Pujara, India's mainstay at the top of the batting order in Tests, could not bat for long hours and he failed in both innings.
