Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is celebrating his 42nd birthday today, July 7. The ace cricketer, popularly known as "captain cool" for his calm demeanor, has set an example with his remarkable achievements in his more than a decade long career.

Known for handling most difficult situations during a match with ease, Dhoni has bagged almost everything possible in cricket, from the World Cup to the Champions Trophy to the World T20 title and a lot more during his captaincy. Intriguingly, Dhoni is the only skipper in the cricket world to have won all three ICC trophies: the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy.

As MS Dhoni celebrates his special day, let us take a look at some of his major achievements.

T20 World Cup victory

As the captain, Dhoni played a total of 332 matches between 2007 and 2018. His first major achievement was T20 World Cup victory in 2007 when India defeated Pakistan under his captaincy.

2011 World Cup final

Under Dhoni's captaincy, India won the 2011 ICC World Cup beating Sri Lanka in the finals. This was a remarkable moment for Indian cricketing fraternity as the men in blue lifted the trophy after 28 years since the 1983 World Cup win.  

Asia Cup titles

Under Dhoni's leadership, the Indian cricket team won two Test matches in 2010 and 2011. MS Dhoni led his team to win the Asia Cup twice, first in 2010 and then in 2016.

Champions Trophy in 2013

The former Indian skipper clinched the Champions Trophy in 2013 under his leadership.

IPL success

In the history of Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni is the first captain to have crossed 4,000 runs. As the leader of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in all 14 IPL seasons he led the team to clinch the trophy five times and reach qualifiers for the playoff stages 12 times out of 14.

Dhoni’s other achievements and honours

Among the other honours and awards that the ace cricketer has won include the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award for the decade 2011–2020.  Dhoni was honored with Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhusan in 2018. He also holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Territorial Army. To date, he continues to remain the only Indian skipper to have played the maximum number of international matches (332). 

MS Dhoni net worth

Dhoni is one of the richest cricketers in the world, with a net worth of nearly Rs 1,400 crore, according to reports. Unsurprisingly, Dhoni was also the highest tax payer in Jharkhand in the year 2017–2018. Even though he has taken retirement from international cricket, he continues to remain in demand to endorse brands. He has a plethora of brands across categories, including a few from reputed companies.

He is the co-owner of a hockey club named Ranchi Rays and has a hotel in his home state, Hotel Mahi Residency. Also, being a fitness enthusiast, Dhoni owns more than 200 gyms across the country under the name SportsFit. He is also the ambassador of the SEVEN lifestyle brand, which he launched in 2016.
