Mirabai Chanu gold medal: Mirabai Chanu Saikhom, the Former World Champion and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, created history at Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday. Chanu struck the first gold medal for India in the women`s 49 kg weightlifting on the second day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday. With the help of Mirabai Chanu's gold, the India's medal tally at CWG 2022 rose to four on Saturday.
Soon after Mirabai Chanu won firs gold medal for India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to Congratulate her. He wrote, "The exceptional Mirabai Chanu makes India proud once again! Every Indian is delighted that she’s won a Gold and set a new Commonwealth record at the Birmingham Games."
All 4 medals in Weightlifting
Earlier, Sanket Sargar bagged silver to ensure first medal for India in Birmingham in the men's 55kg weightlifting event. Bindyarani Devi won a Silver Medal in Women’s 55 kg Weightlifting and Gururaja Poojary secured Bronze in Men's 61kg weightlifting category.

Tokyo Olympic Games silver medallist Mirabai, who held the world record in this weight division at one time, lifted a total aggregate of 201 kg to win the gold medal with a Games Record at Hall No. 3 at the National Exhibition Centre.
By far the best weightlifter in this weight class, the 27-year-old from Manipur lifted 88 kg in snatch and then added 113 kg from the clean and jerk to leave the opposition way behind. While Mirabai lifted 201 kg for the gold medal, Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa of Mauritius took silver with a total of 172 kg, Canada`s Hannah Kaminiski took bronze with a total of 171 kg.
Four years ago, Mirabai had won the gold medal in Gold Coast while Ranaivosoa had finished second. The order remained the same in Birmingham too.
