India vs West Indies Live Streaming: First ODI Recap
India won the toss and chose to field first. Team India restricted the Windies to just 114 runs after 23 overs. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja were the star players for the Indian side, as they collectively took seven wickets, with Kuldeep taking 4 wickets for just 6 runs in 3 overs.
Debutant Mukesh Kumar's line and length have been exceptional across formats, and it will be difficult to dismiss him from the squad in the second ODI.
West Indies skipper Shai Hope tried to put up a fight for his team, as he was the highest scorer for his side. Hope scored a total of 43 runs in 45 balls, with Alick Athanaze as the second-highest scorer for the side with 22 runs in 18 balls. The tendency to play T20 cricket in a 50-over match was on full display with the kind of careless shot selections that landed the Windies in a pickle. An easy target of 115 runs was set for the Indian side.
In the second inning, skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid had a nightmare while trying out the middle-order batters upfront. Sharma dropped his position and promoted youngster Ishan Kishan to open the batting with Shubman Gill. Gill fell early, but Kishan went on to score a brilliant 56 off 46 balls.
Indian batting did take some hits from the West Indies bowling attack. Suryakumar Yadav again was not able to reproduce his T20 form in 50-over cricket. India lost five wickets in the process while chasing the target, with Sharma coming to bat at number seven when India were at 97 for five after 17.2 overs. The last time he batted at the seventh spot was almost 12 years back.
In the end, Sharma and Jadeja took India home, with a boundary from Sharma off Gudakesh Motie's bowling. India won by five wickets after 22.5 overs with a score of 118 runs.
