Nepal set the record for the highest team total in a T20I match, along with the fastest T20I fifty by Dipendra Singh Airee, the fastest T20I hundred by Kushal Malla, and the most sixes (26) in a T20I innings. Dipendra Singh reached the milestone in just nine balls, and Kushal Malla scored his maiden T20I hundred in just 34 balls.

Nepal was on a rampage that day, not just against the Mongolian bowling but also their batting, as Nepal bowled out the whole Mongolian team in just 13.1 overs with just 41 runs on the board. Nepal won the match by 273 runs, which is the highest-ever victory margin in a T20I match. They won their second group-stage match against the Maldives by 138 runs, qualifying for the quarterfinals.

India, on the other hand, had directly qualified for the knockout stages of the event courtesy of the team's International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings. Only three other teams had this privilege — Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
