The loss has been a major blow to the Indian contingent, as this is the first time India has lost a test match in Hyderabad. This test also highlighted weak links in India's batting rosters, especially youngster Shubman Gill and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who haven't consistently performed in recent matches. Since 2023, Iyer has played six test matches and made 131 runs at an average of 14.55, with the highest score of 35 in an innings. Whereas in his entire test career, Gill has played 21 matches and made 1063 runs at an average of 29.53.

Furthermore, India has suffered another massive blow as batting mainstay KL Rahul and wily all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have been ruled out of the second test due to injuries. Both have been performing consistently for India in the recent past. Rahul and Jadeja scored 86 off 123 balls and 87 off 180 balls in the first innings, respectively; while Jadeja also picked up five wickets in the match, and their absence will further dent India's chances of levelling the series at Vizag.

Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury, while Rahul complained of right quadriceps pain. India is already deprived of the services of their star batter, Virat Kohli, who earlier withdrew his name from the first two tests for personal reasons.

Batter Sarfaraz Khan, and bowling all-rounders Saurabh Kumar and Washington Sundar, have been included in the squad as their replacements for Rahul and Jadeja for the second test. Sundar does have some test experience under his belt, but he hasn't really lit up the stage. Sarfaraz Khan has received his maiden call-up to the Indian side, and though Saurabh Kumar had been named in the Indian squad against Sri Lanka in 2022 he wasn't picked.

On the other hand, England has been cruising with their 'Bazball' style of cricket. Youngster Ollie Pope was exceptional in the second innings, where he made 196 runs off 278 balls, smashing 21 boundaries. Also, spinner Tom Hartley had a dream debut as he picked up seven wickets in India's second innings, leading to England's victory by 28 runs.

Skipper Ben Stokes has spoken highly of his spinners in their squad, who have performed quite well in the Indian conditions. He also mentioned that the win at Hyderabad was his greatest triumph as captain of the Three Lions.

England have won 14 matches of their 19 Tests played since Stokes took over as captain in May 2022. These include coveted wins over opposition like New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Australia, and Stokes will look forward to adding India as another feather in his cap.

However, India has a history of starting poorly and then bouncing back, and Rohit Sharma and his men will hope to fire on all cylinders in order to make a comeback in the series.
