With one team playing the test format of the game as a T20I match and the other team dominating in home conditions, it is anticipated that this series will provide some great entertainment to the fans. After taking on the role of England's head coach, former Kiwi legend Brendon McCullum has changed how test cricket will be played for the Three Lions. Popularly known as 'Bazball', this style of play lets the batting side have an offensive approach to the game, putting pressure on the bowling side. This approach has helped England do quite well in the red ball format of the game, as they have won 13 of their 18 matches played, scoring at a rate of 4.8 per over.

However, the home conditions are the biggest advantage for the Indian side. The Indian juggernaut has been a formidable force when it comes to playing here, losing just three out of their 46 test matches played at home. Along with that, the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had been tormenting the opposition batters for a long time, taking 530 wickets at home at an average of 20.7. Additionally, India also boasts a great pace attack consisting of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, the squad has to make do without one of the batting mainstays, Virat Kohli, who recently withdrew his name from the first two tests, citing personal reasons. Rajat Patidar was named as Kohli's replacement in the squad. The team can still manage well with some reliable batters like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who will provide much support to the top order consisting of skipper Rohit Sharma and the two youngsters—Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.

England, on the other hand, will lack the services of youngster Harry Brooks, who pulled out of the series but might make a comeback to the squad in latter days. The Three Lions need to strategize well, as they lack much experience in their spin department, with only Jack Leach expected to do most of the heavy lifting. However, England has a great batting line-up at their helm, with the likes of skipper Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Ollie Pope, and most notably Joe Root, who averaged close to 50 against spin in India. Furthermore, their pace attack is also something not to be taken lightly, with veteran James Anderson leading the way and Mark Wood providing the support.
