ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: The International Council of Cricket (ICC) has announced today, August 9, that it has rescheduled a total of nine matches, including the match between India and Pakistan, from the current fixtures of the ICC World Cup that will be played in India later this year. The match between arch-rivals will now be played on October 14.
The rescheduling was done on a request from the BCCI to the ICC for India vs Pakistan match, which was supposed to be played on October 15. The reason behind the request was due to the festival of Navaratri, which will start on October 15.
Along with that, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had also requested BCCI to reschedule England vs Pakistan match, which was to be played on October 12 at the Eden Gardens. ICC has provided the fixture list of the rescheduled matches, starting with the ultimate clash between India and Pakistan, which has been shifted a day earlier to October 14 at the same venue. As a result, England's match against Afghanistan in Delhi is now rescheduled to Sunday, October 15 (from Saturday, October 14).
Pakistan's match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 10 (from Thursday, October 12). Another major clash between Australia and South Africa in Lucknow has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 12, from the previously-announced date of October 13.
Also, New Zealand's game against Bangladesh, which was initially planned for October 14 as a day match in Chennai, has been pushed back to Friday, October 13, and will now be played as a day-night contest.
This slight modification to the fixture in the initial phase of the tournament has changed England's match against Bangladesh in Dharamsala into a day match, after it was initially scheduled to be a day-night fixture.
There are three alterations near the end of the league stage, with the double-header matches — Australia vs Bangladesh in Pune, and England vs Pakistan in Kolkata — being shifted a day earlier to Saturday, November 11.
India's final league game against the Netherlands has also been rescheduled for November 12, which will be a day-night match played in Bengaluru.
The tournament will start on October 5 with the first match being played against England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
ICC has also mentioned that fans will be able to register from August 15 to show their interest in ticket sales in advance.
