English Premier League - Leeds United vs Everton: Frank Lampard lashes out at “time wasting” jibes after 1-1 draw
Leeds United vs Everton: Frank Lampard’s Everton stumbled to a one-all draw against a resurgent Leeds United side on Wednesday. Leeds fans were left agitated with what they termed as “time wasting tactics” of Everton, prompting Lampard to deflect the blame of the scrappy draw onto the opponents.
Lampard was quoted by Leeds Live as saying that the Leeds United fans were “obsessed with time wasting” and fans tried to manage the game and pressurise the match referee. The Everton boss said it felt like the fans wanted the players and shot-stopper Jordan Pickford to ‘”sprint into the crowd” and fetch the ball to resume play.
During the keenly-fought game, Leeds lost their skipper and key player Rodrigo after a painful injury, leaving fans and clubs worried about the club’s matches ahead. The Spain forward walked off the pitch midway through the game after dislocating his shoulder post a clash with Everton goalkeeper Pickford. The 31-year-old striker has been in top form for his club. Leeds manager Hesse Marsch said he was unsure of the extent of the injury and Rodrigo's return date as of now.
Leeds’ goal was scored by Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra, who opened his account in the English Premier League with the second-half goal. His strike cancelled out the goal struck by Anthony Gordon in the 18th minute.
Leeds will next play Brentford on Saturday, while Lampard’s Everton will face a stern test against Liverpool. Notably, Liverpool smashed 9 goals against a hapless Bournemouth which led to the sacking of Scott Parker – the first managerial casualty for this season.
