TNPL 2023: One of the most bizarre moments in the history of cricket happened during a match in the seventh edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League on Tuesday, June 13. The match between Chepauk Super Gillies and Salem Spartans at the SNR College Cricket Ground, Coimbatore, saw a bowler giving 18 runs off one legal delivery.
In the 20th over of the first inning, when the board read 19.5 overs, Salem Spartans' captain Abhishek Tanwar gave away 18 runs in the last ball.
Chepauk Super Gillies' R. Sanjay Yadav smashed those 18 runs off the last ball, getting his team total to 217 runs in 20 overs.
Tanwar bowled four no-balls and conceded a total of 26 runs in the last over.
Here's what happened:
Tanwar bowled a no-ball on the last delivery. He re-bowled and was smashed for a massive six by Yadav, but as it turns out it, he had overstepped again. Yadav took two runs on the next ball, which was also given as a no-ball. With this, Tanwar had given a total of 11 runs without bowling a legal delivery.
In his next attempt, Tanwar bowled a wide and got hit for a six on the last legal delivery, making a total of 18 runs off just one ball.
Chepauk Super Gillies vs Salem Spartans: Result
In the end, R. Sanjay Yadav scored an unbeaten 31 runs off 12 balls. Chepauk Super Gillies won the match by a comfortable 52 runs. Pradosh Ranjan Paul of Chepauk Super Gillies was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant 88 runs off 55 balls. Sunny Sandhu was the best bowler for the Salem Spartans - he picked two wickets and conceded 32 runs in four overs.
Rocky Bhasker, Baba Aparajith, and Viju Arul took two wickets each for Chepauk Super Gillies to restrict the Salem Spartans to 165 runs with the loss of nine wickets after the end of 20 overs. Muhammed Adnan Khan scored the most runs for the Spartans with an unbeaten 47 runs off 15 balls.
The TNPL 2023 will be played from June 12 to July 12, 2023. Matches will start at 3 PM or 7 PM depending on the match schedule.
The tournament will be held across four venues. The details of the venue are given below:
