India lost both openers — skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill — in successive overs before tea on Day 2, then soon after the break Cheteshwar Pujara too fell at a personal score of 14 runs as Aussie pace attack of Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Cameron Green wreaked havoc. Australia put up a mammoth total of 469 runs in their first innings, while Mohd Siraj picked 4 wickets.
India picked the remaining seven Aussie wickets on Day 2 to claw back into the game in the first two sessions after Steve Smith brought up his ninth century as second day's proceedings began at the World Test Championship Final. Steve Smith was bowled by Shardul Thakur for 121 runs and Travis Head was caught behind by Srikar Bharat off the bowling of Mohd Siraj for a brilliantly-played knock of 163 runs off 174 deliveries at an almost astonishing run-a-ball strike rate.
Earlier on Day1: Travis Head and Steve Smith helped Australia stage a superb recovery on the first day of the World Test Championship as the duo boosted their team from 76 for 3 to 327 for 3 at stumps. While Head ended Day 1 unbeaten on 146 runs, Smith was also close his century at 95 not out as the duo added 251 unbeaten runs for the fourth wicket partnership. India were off to a good start against Australia on Day 1 in the ICC WTC 2023 Final as Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur struck early in the first session. Siraj sent back Australian opener Usman Khawaja in his second over, while Shardul scalped Warner's wicket. Shami castled Labuschagne right after lunch. While Warner looked dangerous, with Umesh Yadav bearing the brunt of his aggression, Khawaja returned to pavilion withouth troubling the scorers.

WTC Final Day 2, IND vs AUS | India end up with 151/5 for the day, still 118 runs away from avoiding a follow-on
All in all, India do manage to restrict Australia's first innings at 469 runs on the second day but still trail by 318 runs. The batting order does not look strong for India going into the third day of the final test on Friday, June 9, given the team lost five wickets in a matter of hours, all in the second half of the second day.
Other than Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja, who secure 29 and 48 runs on the second day respectively, no other hitter crosses the 25 mark.
With three more days to go, India have already lost five wickets to excellent bowling by Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon.
