MI Team profile

Injuries, inconsistency, and the release of big-ticket players like Hardik Pandya marred Mumbai Indians’ performance in IPL 2022 as they finished at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in 14 games. However, the Rohit Sharma-led side is still the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League with five titles to its name. The team, which was once captained by legendary batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, won the tournament in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Their winning percentage of 56.7% is the second-best after Chennai Super Kings among teams which have played at least 20 games. Mumbai have played 231 matches, won 129 and lost 98 of them, while they also won and lost as many matches each in the tiebreaker.

Apart from success in IPL tournaments, Mumbai Indians have also won the inter-continental T20 League - Champions League T20 - in 2011 and 2013.

Ahead of the IPL 2023 season, Mumbai Indians got a big jolt as their star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been almost ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Mumbai’s other ace, Kieron Pollard, has hung up his boots from the IPL and has now become the bowling coach of the team. So, the responsibility of the bowling attack will fall on fit-again English pacer Jofra Archer, who couldn’t play in the 2022 IPL season because of an injury. He can be assisted by Australian Cameron Green, who fared well against India in the recently concluded ODI series. For the likes of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tim David, it’s a matter of clicking in a few matches to reverse Mumbai Indians’ forgettable results in IPL 2022.

MI Record in IPL 2022:

Mumbai Indians started off on a poor note and lost their first eight matches. They won four of their next six matches, but their overall record of four wins in 14 matches was nowhere to match their legendary status.
