IPL 2023 GT vs KKR: Gujarat Titans Rashid Khan takes first hat-trick of IPL 2023 season

First hat-trick of IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans' ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan on Sunday became the first bowler in IPL 2023 to take a hat-trick.

Rashid, who replaced Hardik Pandya as the captain for today's match, removed Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur on successive deliveries to claim the first hat-trick of IPL 2023.

While this is the 22nd hat-trick in the history of IPL, he became the 19th player to do so since Amit Mishra has three IPL hat-tricks to his name, while Yuvraj Singh has two. 

With the hat-trick, Rashid also became the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023 and now holds Purple Cap.

The Gujarat bowler has eight wickets from three matches. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Rashid took three wickets for 37 runs in four overs.

However, luck was not Gujarat's side as the team still lost the match against Kolkata Knight Riders. 

First IPL hat-trick

Lakshmipathy Balaji of Chennai Super Kings became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in IPL, when he acheived this feat against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2008 season.

Amit Mishra took hat-tricks in IPL 2008, 2011 and 2013. Yuvraj has the rare feat of taking two hat-tricks in the same season, when playing for Kings XI Punjab, he took two hat-tricks in IPL 2009.
