Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, reached finals in IPL 2020, but lost to Mumbai Indians. The team has also played semi-finals in IPL 2008 and 2009
IPL 2023 Delhi Capitals team record:
Despite having a strong team in most of the IPL seasons, Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils have failed to win any title till date.
Their best performance has been a final appearance in IPL 2020, when they lost to Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians by five wickets.
Delhi topped the points table in IPL 2021 after the league stage, but the tournament was suspended due to COVID-19-related restrictions.
They were semifinalists in the inaugural IPL in 2008, where they lost to eventual champions Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin of 105 runs.
They were in semi-finals in IPL 2009 as well, where they meet Deccan Chargers in semi-finals, but Delhi lost the match by six wickets to storm out of the tournament.
Delhi Capitals have played 225 matches in IPL so far, of which they have won 100 and lost 119.
They won three matches in a tiebreaker while losing one. Their winning percentage in IPL is 45.73 per cent.
IPL 2023 Delhi Capitals Team profile:
Delhi Capitals suffered a major blow as their skipper and star batsman Rishabh Pant was ruled out of IPL 2023 following a car accident a few months back.
David Warner, their best batsman last season, has taken over as the new captain.
Delhi released five players in a mini-auction last year and purchased bowler Mukesh Kumar.
The team has retained most of its IPL 2022 squad and also retained coach Ricky Ponting.
Though Pant is out of the tournament, the team still has a strong squad, including, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Sarfaraz Khan, Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahman, Lungi Njidi, Khaleel Ahmed, Mithcell Marsh, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Delhi Capitals record in IPL 2022:
Delhi didn’t capitalise on its last two years’ performance and finished fifth out of 10 teams in the league stage.
The team won seven matches and lost seven, primarily because its stellar batting line-up didn’t rise to the occasion as it was expected.
Warner impressed with his batting, scoring 432 runs in 12 matches with an average of 48.
However, Pant (340 runs in 14 matches) and Shaw (283 runs in 10 matches) didn’t live up to their reputations as batsmen.
Among bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav (21 wickets in 14 matches), and Khaleel Ahmed (16 wickets in 10 matches) made an impact, but they needed more support from batsmen.
