Inconsistency in team selections have also marred their chances on many occasions.
While PBKS finished sixth, KKR ended a rung below in the seventh spot in the 10-team IPL 2022.
Both teams replaced their captains for this sesason as veteran Shikhar Dhawan will be at the helm of Punjab, while domestic star Nitish Rana will take place of injured Shreyas Iyer as the KKR captain.
On paper, though, PBKS looked stronger than KKR, but injured Englishman Jonny Bairstow's absence will certainly leave a big void in Punjab's team composition.
In Bairstow's place, PBKS has taken Big Bash League's player-of-the-tournament this season, Matthew Short, who can open bat along side Dhawan.
Other key PBKS players, who will miss Saturday's game are hard-hitting all-rounder Liam Livingstone, and South African Kagiso Rabada, who is on national duty.

Malfunctioning floodlights
Kolkata Knight Riders' chase against Punjab Kings in the match today was delayed by almost half an hour due to floodlight malfunction at the PCA-IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
The stadium has a total of six floodlights at a comparatively lower height. Even as KKR came out to bat, a lot of bulbs in multiple towers didn't turn on and it became a frustrating wait for players, who then went inside the dressing room.
