DK Shivakumar sworn in as Karnataka's Deputy CM: Congress leader and state chief DK Shivakumar was sworn in as a sole deputy chief minister of the state on Saturday. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shivakumar at the swearing-in ceremony being held at Bengaluru's Kanteerava Stadium.
Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah was sworn in as the Chief Minister for Karnataka for the second time amid the presence of the top brass of the Congress party including the Gandhi family members Rahul and Priyanka. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was also present on the occasion.
The chief ministers of the Congress-ruled states including Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel attended the event. Opposition leaders such as Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and his deputy and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti and National Congress leader Farooq Abdullah were also present. Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the deputy chief minister.
The Congress Party bagged 135 seats in the May 10 elections to the 224-member Karnataka Assembly ousting the ruling BJP, which won 66 seats. The Janata Dal Secular managed to win 19 seats in the results declared on May 13.
