Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: Veteran BJP leader Dr Ashwathnarayan C N, who has won the Malleshwaram seat thrice in the past - 2008, 2013 and 2018, which be looking to make it four wins in a row in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023. Congress has nominated Anoop Iyengar, while JD(S) has named Uttkarsh and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Suman from Malleshwaram.

In 2018, Dr Ashwathnarayan had won the seat by defeating Kengal Shreepadharenu of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 54,000 votes. And now the ruling party is vying to retain power in the state. Big leaders like PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath, Rajnath Singh, and others have campaigned for the BJP.

While Congress, which has been considered as the key opponent in this election, is vying to unseat BJP. Leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and others are campaigning for the party for the upcoming mega-election.

Among the 224 constituencies going to polls on May 10, Malleshwaram is one of the prominent constituencies that will witness a heated contest. This seat comes under the Bangalore North district of Karnataka.

Karnataka Assembly Elections are scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 10 and the counting of the votes will take place after 2 days, i.e., on Saturday, May 13. The state has 224 constituencies for which major political parties -- Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, and Janata Dal (Secular) -- are in the fray.

Karnataka Election 2023: Background

On May 24, 2023, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly's tenure will come to an end. The most recent Assembly elections were held in May 2018. Following the election, the single-largest party BJP established the state government under BS Yediyurappa, but it barely lasted a week since it couldn't withstand the Assembly's floor test.

This was followed by the coalition of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Indian National Congress, with H. D. Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister, which lasted 14 months before Yediyurappa and BJP returned to power in the state.

Karnataka Election 2023: Schedule

Single-phase Karnataka Assembly Election has been scheduled on May 10, 2023 (Wednesday).
The vote counting will be done on May 13, 2023 (Saturday).
In an Assembly of 224 seats, the majority mark is 113.
