Gujarat Rajkot East Result 2022: Uday Kangad of BJP wins

Rajkot East Election Results 2022: Uday Kangad of Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday headed for a victory in Rajkot East Assembly by a decent margin of over 28,000. Uday Kangad has won with 85933 votes while Indranil Rajguru of Congress is at the second spot with 57397 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's Rahul Bhuva has secured 35146 votes securing the third spot. 

The candidates contesting from Rajkot East Assembly seats were Indranil Rajguru(INC), Uday Kangad(BJP), SAGTHIYA SURESHKUMAR GOVINDBHAI (CPI), Rahul Bhuva(AAP). Candidates also include independent candidates Parghi Surajbhai Nanjibhai,  Ranchhodbhai Maganbhai Ughreja, RAJESH SAMSUDDIN GILANI, LUNAGARIYA BABULAL PARSHOTAMBHAI.

Rajkot East is constituency number sixty-eight of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Rajkot East is one of the eight Assembly seats of Gujarat's Rajkot district apart from Rajkot West, Rajkot South, Rajkot Rural, Jasdan, Gondal, Jetpur and Dhoraji. It is one of the seven Assembly seats that make up the Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency and is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs).

In 2017, BJP's Arvind Raiyani defeated Congress candidate Mitul Donga by 22,782 votes.

Gujarat Election 2022

The Gujarat Assembly elections were held in two phases on December 1 and 5 across 33 districts. While the contest in Gujarat has traditionally been between the BJP and Congress, it was three-cornered this time around with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) entering the poll arena.

Voter turnout stood at 66.31 per cent, lower than the 71.28 per cent recorded in the 2017 Assembly elections. The fate of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s chief ministerial candidate Isudan Gadhvi, youth leaders Hardik Patel, Jignesh Mevani and Alpesh Thakor, among a total 1,621 candidates will be decided on Thursday.
