The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has surged ahead in the counting of votes in the prestigious Gujarat assembly poll results on Thursday. The main opposition Congress party is trailing at distant two, while the newest kid on the block — Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) — has also secured lead in a few seats. The counting of  votes for the high-stakes Gujarat assembly election began at 8 am amid high security at 37 centres in the presence of Election Commission of India (ECI)-appointed observers across the state. At stake are 182 seats up for grabs between the incumbent BJP and the Congress party and the AAP.
