Assembly Elections 2023: Assembly elections in five states - Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana - will begin on November 7 and the votes will be counted on December 3, the Election Commission said on Monday. According to EC, the voting for all 40 assembly seats in Mizoram will be held in a single phase on November 7. In Chhattisgarh, assembly polls will be held in two phases on November 7 and November 17. In the first phase, polling will take place for 20 seats and the remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh will go to polls in the second phase.

Voting on all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh will take place on November 17.

Voting for all 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan will take place on November 23, while the 119-member Telangana Assembly will be the last to go to polls on November 30.

Counting of votes for all five states will take place on December 3, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said at a press conference.

Nearly 16 crore voters would be eligible to cast their votes. While Congress is in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh is ruled by BJP, Telangana by Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Mizoram by Mizo National Front (MNF).

According to EC, Assembly elections in five states have 1.77 lakh polling stations and a webcasting facility will be available at 1.01 lakh booths.

The term of the Mizoram assembly ends on December 17. The Mizo National Front is in power in the northeastern state. The terms of the legislative assemblies of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan end on different dates in January next year.

While the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) rules Telangana, Madhya Pradesh is ruled by the BJP. The Congress is in power in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
