Sohiong Assembly Election 2023 Result Highlights: UDP's Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah wins
Sohiong Election Results 2023: Sohiong constituency in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya is reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates. The polling for the Sohiong by-election was held on May 10, amid tight security arrangements. Counting of votes for the by-poll will begin at 8 am amid tight security and the result is declared today, Saturday, May 13, 2023. The by-election in Sohiong was necessitated after polls in the constituency were postponed following the death of UDP candidate HDR Lyngdoh while Assembly elections were held in Meghalaya on February 27.
The voting was held on 3,328 polling booths, of which 1,100 were identified as sensitive and 28 as critical. Voting for the Sohiong constituency by-poll in Meghalaya saw a 91.87 per cent turnout of the total 34,783 voters in all 63 polling stations on Wednesday, a figure much higher than the previous years, officials said.
United Democratic Party candidate Synshar Kupar Roy Thabah won the Sohiong assembly seat, defeating his NPP nominee by over 3,400 votes.
