Karnataka Elections 2023 LIVE: Voting concludes, 72.67% voter turnout recorded, says Election Commission; Counting on Saturday
Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 Live Updates: Voting concluded in the single-phase Karnataka Assembly elections amid tight security arrangements on Wednesday. According to the Election Commission, 72.67% voter turnout was recorded, excluding the postal ballots and home voting. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will look to ride on the Modi juggernaut and break the 38-year jinx to return to power. Karnataka has never voted the incumbent party to power since 1985 and BJP will look to change that by retaining its southern citadel. The Congress on the other hand will look to capitalise on its anti-corruption charges and hope the anti-incumbency factor helps it wrest power in order to reposition itself as the main opposition player in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The third front - belonging primarily to former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) - will hope to emerge either as a "king" or as a "kingmaker" and hold the key for government formation in the case of a fractured mandate.
