Jalandhar Lok Sabha ByElection Result 2023 Live Updates: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku defeated his nearest rival — Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary — by 58,691 votes to win the Jalandhar bypoll. Counting of votes for the bypoll to the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency (earlier known as Jullundur Lok Sabha seat) had begun at 8AM on Saturday, May 13, and the result was inevitable by noon. The AAP candidate led right from the word go, and kept widening the gap on his rivals as counting progressed.
Jalandhar is one of the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab. Jalandhar Lok Sabha Byelection was warranted after sitting MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary of Congress passed away on 14 January this year. In his place Congress has fielded his widow Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary from Jalandhar, while BJP has fielded Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Sushil Kumar Rinku, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has given ticket to Dr Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) or SAD(A) placed its hopes on Gurjant Singh Kattu to wrest this seat.
