Chhattisgarh Election Results 2023 LIVE Update | MPs who win Assembly elections have to quit one seat in 14 days
Several of the MPs who contested the assembly polls and won will have to quit one of the seats in the next 14 days, else they stand to lose their Parliament membership, "If they don't, on expiry of 14 days, they will lose their membership of Parliament. However, they can continue as member of the state legislative assembly," Constitution expert and former Lok Sabha secretary general PDT Achari said, citing the Prevention of Simultaneous Membership Rule issued by the president in 1950 under Article 101 of the Constitution.
The BJP fielded 21 MPs, including Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Faggan Singh Kulaste, in the Assembly polls—seven each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, four in Chhattisgarh and three in Telangana.

With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heading towards victory in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan out of the four states that went to polls recently, the party will now be in power in 12 states on its own, while the Congress—the second largest national party—will come down to three—Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, after losing Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. The Aam Aadmi Party, with its governments in Delhi and Punjab, is the third largest national party.
The BJP is in power in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh. It is also part of the ruling coalition in four states: Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim.
The Congress is part of the ruling coalition in Bihar and Jharkhand and is an ally of the DMK which rules Tamil Nadu but is not part of the state government.
