Delhi Air Pollution Update: Supreme Court to consider easing GRAP-4 restrictions on Monday as AQI level still in 'very poor' category

Today (November 22), the Supreme Court said that it will consider on Monday (November 25) whether Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-4 restrictions in the capital can be eased or not as the AQI (air quality index) level is still at 'very poor' category.

GRAP-4 restrictions
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih expressed displeasure over the poor implementation of GRAP-4 restrictions, especially related to restricting entry of trucks carrying non-essential goods into Delhi.

"It is very difficult for us to assume that entry of trucks in Delhi has been stopped," observed a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih.

AQI in Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI was 273 in Faridabad, 371 in Gurugram, 364 in Ghaziabad, 232 in Greater Noida and 370 in Noida at around 6 PM.
AQI in Jahangirpuri, Nehru Nagar, Anand Vihar and other areas
Around the same time in seven areas of Delhi, the AQI level remained above 400 and between 450. It was 448 in Anand Vihar, 437 in Bawana, 447 in Jahangirpuri, 436 in Mundka, 440 in Nehru Nagar, 427 in Shadipur, and 427 in Wazirpur.
Night cleaning and road sweeping
To decrease pollution in the national capital, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) began night cleaning and road sweeping at several places early Friday morning.

People have been advised to wear masks outdoors during periods of hazardous air quality.
GRAP-4
The Delhi government last week implemented stringent measures to curb pollution under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), in addition to the actions under Stage 1 and Stage 2 -- which were invoked on October 15 and October 22 respectively.
Ban on firecrackers
The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Delhi government as to how the ban on bursting firecrackers in the national capital to curb air pollution was flouted during Diwali celebrations.
Work from home
Due to increased pollution levels, the Delhi government has also implemented 'work from home'.
