World Hindi Day 2023: World Hindi Day, also known as Vishwa Hindi Diwas, is observed on January 10 every year. The day aims to create awareness as well as promote the Hindi language across the world.

World Hindi Day History

Hindi was made the official language of the Union of India in 1950. It is designated as Hindi in Devanagari script in Article 343 of the Indian Constitution.  In 1973, Rashtra bhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha, had the idea for the inaugural World Hindi Conference. On January 10, 1975, Nagpur hosted the event. The goal was to spread the language throughout the world. Total of 122 representatives attended the conference from 30 nations.

On January 10, 2006, first World Hindi Day was celebrated. Former prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh adopted it.

World Hindi Day Theme

The theme this year of the conference is 'Hindi: Traditional Knowledge to Artificial Intelligence' .The conference is to be held at the Denarau Island Convention Center in Nadi, Fiji, an ANI report read. 

A post on the World Hindi Conference's official website reads," Several exhibitions related to the development of the Hindi language will be organised at the conference venue."
Cultural programmes and Kavi Sammelan are also proposed to be organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi, during the conference, ANI reported.

World Hindi Day Celebrations

Various activities are planned on this day to honour the language's rich legacy and to promote it all around the world. These are hosted by educational institutions. Moreover, classes are provided to educate people about the language.

The Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the Government of Fiji will host the 12th World Hindi Conference in Fiji from February 15-17, an ANI report said.
