Rythu Bandhu scheme: The Telangana government launched 10th phase of Rythu Bandhu or Agriculture Investment Support Scheme on Wednesday. Under this phase, Rs 7,676 crore will be deposited in the bank accounts of over 70 lakh 54 thousand farmers towards investment support for the Rabi crop season.

The Rythu Bandhu scheme is a cash transfer programme for farmers. Under this scheme, the state government provides investment support for agriculture and horticulture crops by way of a grant of Rs 5,000 per acre to farmers each season for the purchase of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.

When was Rythu Bandhu launched? 

The scheme was implemented from the 2018–19 Kharif season. The scheme was launched to ensure that the farmers do not fall into the debt trap.

According to IANS reports, Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao said on the first day Rs 607.32 crore was deposited in the accounts of 21,02,822 farmers holding up to one acre of land. The investment support is being disbursed at a rate of Rs 5,000 per acre.

Farmers holding up to two acres of land will receive the money on Thursday and those owning up to three acres will get the money in their accounts on Friday. This way the disbursal will continue till all 70.54 lakh farmers are covered.

Officials said assistance for 1.53 crore acres will be provided during this season.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Wednesday tweeted, " “Today, marks the 10th season of Rythu Bandhu Scheme where over 70 lakh farmers in Telangana will receive the assistance of Rs 7,676.61 crore in total. KCR Garu has dreamt of an India where the farmers and poor are empowered, Telangana is living the dream which is now a reality.”
