Vat Savitri Vrat 2023: Importance

On this auspicious day, women keep fast for the longevity and well-being of their husbands. Every year, it falls on Amavasya Tithi therefore it is known as Vat Amavasya. On this day, women offer prayers to Banyan tree (Vat Vriksha) and seek blessings.

Vat Vriksha is regarded as one of the most sacred trees in Hindu scriptures. Because of its longevity and the fact that it is thought to be home to the three primary Hindu gods—Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma.

It is believed that by observing this fast, women bring fortune and good luck to their husbands the way Savitri brought her husband back from the jaws of death.
