The Election Commission has instructed the Congress government in Karnataka to cease the publication of advertisements about its accomplishments in newspapers in Telangana, which is currently undergoing elections. The Election Commission has also demanded an explanation for not seeking the prior approval required by the electoral code.

Earlier on Tuesday, the BJP filed a complaint with the Commission, alleging that the Congress, through its government in Karnataka, has violated the representation of the People Act and the Model Code of Conduct.

The complaint asserts that the Congress has been placing advertisements in Telangana media with the aim of influencing the upcoming assembly polls, scheduled for November 30. The issue has also been brought to the attention of the poll panel by the BRS.

A straight battle between the Congress and the BJP will also partially determine which of the two parties stands a better chance of taking charge at the Centre at the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Also, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has expressed his confidence about the Congress forming governments in all 5 states, referring to its social gurantee schemes.
