Tata Group Pays tribute to Ratan Tata, a visionary leader and philanthropist
In a condolence message, Sonthalia said whenever India faced difficulties, Tata had contributed generously including during the Covid-19 period.
The Tata Group of Companies held a special meeting on Thursday to pay tribute to Ratan Naval Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, who passed away in Mumbai a day earlier. The meeting, held at the Centre for Excellence, was attended by senior executives of the Tata conglomerate.
In a heartfelt joint statement, the companies expressed their deep sorrow: "We are saddened by the passing of our beloved Mr. Ratan Tata, an extraordinary leader, visionary, and philanthropist whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the fabric of our nation."
Suresh Sonthalia, National Secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), also offered his condolences, remembering Tata as a "true nationalist and philanthropist." Sonthalia highlighted Tata's generous contributions during times of national crisis, including his significant support during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also recalled Tata's decision to reject an order for army tanks from a neighboring country following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Reflecting on Tata's legacy, Sonthalia, a former president of the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), emphasized the industrialist's pivotal role in the development of India and Jamshedpur, the steel city. "We are saddened by the loss of a great visionary, whose contributions to the nation's progress are immense," he said.
Sonthalia also shared a personal memory, recalling his long-standing desire to host Tata at an SCCI event. "I had the honor of delivering the welcome address when he finally attended on March 3, 2012, during the presidency of R.K. Agarwal," he added.
Ratan Tata's passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and service that will continue to inspire generations to come.
