A solar eclipse occurs when Moon passes between Sun and Earth, producing a shadow on Earth that completely or partially covers Sun's light in some locations. This only happens occasionally because Moon does not circle in the same plane as Sun and Earth. The moment when they align is known as eclipse season, which occurs twice a year.

This year's first solar eclipse is expected to be visible on April 8.

Surya Grahan 2024: Where to watch

American space agency, NASA, has said that on April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will pass over North America through Mexico, USA, and Canada. Meanwhile, this solar eclipse will be visible in Western Europe, the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic Mexico, North America, Central America, the northern part of South America, Canada, the North West region of England, and Ireland. 

In India, it will not be visible. It is being said that such a solar eclipse was seen in the year 1971. During this eclipse, Moon will cover Sun for a long time and the sky will remain dark for about 7.5 minutes. At places where it is visible, there will be a night scene during the day.

Surya Grahan 2024: Timings

This will start at around 9.12 pm ISD on April 8 and will end at 1.25 am at midnight. It will be night in India at that time. But the effect of this eclipse will be visible for several hours in different areas of America, Mexico, and Canada.
