Sawan, also known as Shravan, is considered the holiest month of Hinduism. This year (2023), it began on July 4 and will continue till August 31. The arrival of Sawan corresponds to the monsoon season in India as the arrival of the monsoon is considered a blessing from Lord Shiva. An annual pilgrimage, the Kanwar Yatra, is a pilgrimage for the devotees of Lord Shiva. The devotees fetch holy water from the Ganges river from pilgrimage places like Gaumukh, Haridwar, and Gangotri in Uttarakhand, and Sultanganj in Bihar.
