Saraswati Puja 2023: The day of Basant Panchami honours Saraswati, the goddess of learning, music, the arts, science, and technology. On Basant Panchami, adoration is offered to the goddess Saraswati. Shri Panchami and Saraswati Panchami are additional names for Basant Panchami.

People worship Goddess Saraswati in order to become knowledgeable and to be liberated from ignorance, sluggishness and lethargy. This Basant Panchami tradition of introducing education to young children is called as Akshar-Abhyasam or Vidya-Arambham/Prahasana. Pujas are held in schools and universities to ask the Goddess' grace.

Saraswati Ya Kundendu is the most famous Stuti dedicated to Goddess Saraswati and part of the famous Saraswati Stotram. It is recited during Saraswati Puja on the eve of Vasant Panchami.

Saraswati puja 2023: Date and Puja timings

Basant Panchami will be observed on Thursday, January 26 this year. The Panchami Tithi will begin on January 25 at 12:34 PM and finish on January 26 at 10:28 AM. Vasant Panchami falls between 07:12 AM and 12:34 PM.

Basant Panchami 2023: Rituals

Saraswati Puja at homes, schools, and colleges, flying kites, wearing white and yellow outfits, Vidhya Arambha for children, offering mustard and marigold flowers to Goddess Saraswati, Pitri Tarpan for deceased family members, starting new ventures, and other important rituals and activities are observed on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami.

Basant Panchami 2023: Significance

Basant Panchami is also known as Saraswati Jayanti because it is believed to be the birth anniversary of Goddess Saraswati. Vidhya Arambha, a ritual of introducing young children to the world of education and formal learning, is very important on this day. On Basant Panchami, many schools and colleges hold a Saraswati Puja to seek the Goddess' blessings.
