Prithviraj Chauhan Jayanti: Birth

In 1168 A.D., Prithviraj Chauhan was born into a royal family as the son of Maharani Karpuri Devi and Raja Someshwar Chauhan, the ruler of Ajmer. According to Prithviraj's mediaeval biographies, the king was intelligent and fluent in six different languages. He was also a highly skilled archer.

Today, 16 May, Prithviraj Chauhan's Jayanti is being celebrated in Ajmer, Rajasthan with great enthusiasm.

The biggest untruth is found in the Rajasthani-language accounts of specific episodes that claim that Prithviraj Chauhan permitted Mohammad Ghori to return after defeating him six times. Prithviraj Chauhan was also transported to Ghor following his defeat in the seventh battle, where he was blinded for refusing to recognise Mohammad Ghori's supremacy.

According to the court poet Chand Bardai, Prithviraj eloped with Samyukta (Sanyogita), the daughter of Jayachandra Rathod, the Gahadavala king of Kannauj in 1175 and announced her to be his queen. His tale of romance is pretty popular in India and owing to his elopement, he is famous as a romantic and dashing warrior.
