PM Modi calls US President-elect Trump after former US president's stunning victory in 2024 polls
PM Narendra Modi was learned to have praised the performance of the Republican party in the Congressional elections after the former American president made a stunning comeback for a second inconsecutive term in the White House.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was learned to have spoken to US President-elect Donald Trump on a telephone line on Wednesday after the former American president made a stunning comeback for a second inconsecutive term in the White House. The Indian Prime Minister congratulated the US President-elect after he emerged victorious by securing 277 electoral votes against his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, who bagged 224, sources told Zee Business.
PM Modi also praised the performance of the Republican party in the Congressional elections, they said.

During their conversation, both leaders affirmed to work together for world peace. Trump said that the whole world loves PM Modi, adding that India is a magnificent country and that its PM is a magnificent man, the sources said.
Trump was also learned to have said to PM Modi that he considers him as well as India "a true friend".
The US President-elect also said that the Indian PM is "one of the first world leaders he spoke to after his victory", according to sources.
Trump, 78, staged a remarkable comeback four years after he was voted out of the White House.
Earlier on Wednesday, PM Modi took to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) separately to congratulate Trump on his "historic election victory".
"I Look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnershop," the PM wrote.

Several other world leaders also congratulated Trump, including Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu, France President Emmanuel Macron, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Earlier in the day, the former US President said that people had told him that God spared his life for a reason, which was "to save our country and restore America to greatness".
"Now we’re going to fulfill that mission together,” he told Republican supporters while trends showed him leading against Harris.
“The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit, and fight that I have in my soul to the job that you’ve entrusted to me,” Trump added.
