Pedda Panduga 2023 Date and Time: Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the month of January every year. It is a four-day festivity dedicated to Lord Sun. All rituals during Makar Sankranti are gestures of thanksgiving to natural resources on the Earth which make life possible. On the auspicious occasion, Sun God is worshipped for bestowing good harvest and for nurturing livestock.

In Andhra Pradesh, Makar Sankranti is celebrated for four days. Pedda Panduga is observed on the second day of Sankranti. The day prior to Sankranti is known as Bhogi Pandigai.  Pedda Panduga is followed by Kanuma Panduga and Mukkanuma.
