Orange alert issued for Delhi, more rainfall expected, IMD predicts
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to range between 26 and 16 degrees celsius respectively, confirmed the weather department.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rain, hailstorms, and light rain with winds blowing up to 30 to 40 km/h for Delhi on Monday. While the city is expected to see rain throughout the day on Monday, the weather department has issued an orange advisory for Delhi. Today's sky in Delhi is expected to be mostly overcast.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to range between 26 and 16 degrees celsius respectively, confirmed the weather department. Delhi witnessed bouts of rain before the summer warmth arrived. On Sunday and Saturday, rain and hailstorm lashed parts of Delhi-NCR, which brought some respite from the warm weather.
According to IMD, apart from Delhi, parts of North India and central India are also likely to get rainfall. The department tweeted, “Updated Nowcast warnings for ongoing thunderstorms activities, which shows moderate to intense activity over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, southeast Uttar Pradesh, coastal Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh.”
Another western disturbance have started affecting the region from Sunday. Cloudy skies and on-and-off rain will continue over northwest India till March 21, he said. “The precipitation activity is predicted to peak on March 20. The wet spell will keep the mercury in check. Hailstorm is predicted in parts of northwest India, including Delhi-NCR, on Monday,” Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre, told news agency PTI.
Rains in Delhi on Saturday and Sunday helped bring down the maximum temperature in the city three notches below the season’s average to 28 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. The minimum temperature settled at 15.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s average, they said.
Hailstorms were reported at various parts of the national capital including Palam, Chilpighat and Ayanagar, the IMD said. The relative humidity was ranging between 96 per cent and 66 per cent, a senior IMD official said.
