What is the truth behind the closure of New Delhi Railway Station?

The Ministry of Railways has clarified this issue. In a press note, they stated that New Delhi Railway Station is not being closed.

"Some sections of the media have reported that New Delhi Railway Station will be shut down by the end of this year for redevelopment work. It is to announce that New Delhi Railway Station will never be shutdown," said the official release.

Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer also confirms

Regarding the news of the closure of New Delhi Railway Station, it is clarified that there is no immediate plan to stop train operations at the station, Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer, Deepak Kumar, confirmed.

Kumar explained that reports suggesting the station's closure and the shifting of all train operations to other stations in the national capital are misleading and create unnecessary confusion among the public.

Will there be any impact on train operations?

The Railways further said that when a railway station is redeveloped, a number of trains are diverted or controlled as per requirement. However, any such changes are communicated well in advance through the train schedule.

Redevelopment plans under Amrit Bharat Station Yojana (ABSS)

The Ministry of Railways launched the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana (ABSS) in 2023, aiming to redevelop 1,321 stations out of a total of 7,000 across the country. And, New Delhi Railway Station is included in this plan.
