On August 1 every year, National Mountain Climbing Day is observed. It was on August 1, 2015, when two young men climbed the 46 High Peaks of New York State's Adirondack Mountains. Bobby Matthews and his friend Josh Madigan climbed the final peak, Whiteface Mountain.

Whiteface Mountain is the fifth-highest mountain in New York. It is also one of the high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains.

Bobby Matthews and Josh Madigan were inducted into the Adirondack 46 Club a year later. Only those who have climbed all 46 high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains are members of the club.
