Mumbai-bound 12810 Howrah-CSMT Express derails near Jharkhands Chakradharpur; 2 dead, 140 injured; Railways announces ex-gratia
After the accident, the Railways has announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for kins of deceased, and Rs 5 lakh for those sustaining major injuries.
Around 3.39 am on Tuesday (July 30, 2024), 18 coaches of the Mumbai-bound 12810 Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand.
As many as two people were dead, while as many as 150 people got injured in the train incident.
After the accident, the Railways has announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for kins of deceased, and Rs 5 lakh for those sustaining major injuries.
The incident happened as a goods train had already derailed in the downline and Howrah-CSMT Express was moving at 120 kmph.
Derailment occurred between Rajkharswan west outer and Barabamboo.
After the incident, Railway's medical van left for the accident site from Chakradharpur.
Railways arranged special coaching rakes to take passengers from the accident site
Buses were also arranged to carry passengers to the nearest destination.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Chakradharpur, medical team, chief medical superintendent, Senior DCM were present on the site.
Due to the derailment, 22861 Howrah-Kantabaji Express, 08015/18019 Kharagpur Dhanbad Express, and 12021/12022 Howrah Barbil Express have been cancelled.
