Happy Mother's Day: Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year. This year, it will be celebrated on May 12. The official Mother's Day goes back to the 20th century in the United States. Anna Jarvis, an American activist, held a memorial ceremony in the church of her late mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, in Grafton, West Virginia. This was the first official Mother's Day.

Ann Reeves Jarvis, an activist and community organiser, used to bring together women's organisations to promote health and camaraderie in her neighbourhood. Anna planned the memorial event to carry on her mother's heritage of community service after she died in 1905. Following the success of her first Mother's Day, Anna resolved to have her holiday included in the national calendar.

She launched a huge letter-writing campaign to media and prominent politicians, urging the introduction of a day to commemorate mothers. By 1912, Mother's Day had gained widespread recognition. In 1914, then-President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation establishing Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May.
