During interrogation, it was revealed that he had enticed home buyers from Vasai and Virar in Palghar, as well as from neighboring Mumbai, by promising to get them rooms in a chawl (row tenement) in Vasai, according to Senior Inspector Raju Mane of the Manickpur police station.

The accused allegedly collected money from his victims between August 2020 and March 2024 before fleeing, the official added. The police have not specified the number of victims involved.

Following a police complaint filed by some victims in March 2024, a case was registered against the accused under relevant provisions. Additionally, two other cases registered earlier against him at the Manickpur police station have also been detected so far, the official noted.
