However, this quickly caused disturbance and hardship. Linguistic discrepancies among Bombay residents disturbed the state's sanctity and caused complications. Movements arose demanding that the state be divided into two halves, one for people speaking Gujarati and Kutchi and the other for those speaking Marathi and Konkani. The Samyukta Maharashtra Movement and the Mahagujarat Movement initiated the movements.
