Lunar Eclipse on Holi: The festival of colours-Holi- will be celebrated on Monday, March 25, this year. Hindus all over the world are all set to celebrate this religious festival with full zest and enthusiasm. However, on this auspicious day, a rare astronomical phenomenon is about to occur as the penumbral lunar eclipse will coincide with Holi.
This will be the first lunar eclipse of 2024. After this, there will be the first solar eclipse (Solar Eclipse 2024) which will happen after 15 days in April.

Lunar Eclipse on Holi 2024: What time will the lunar eclipse begin?
According to Drik Panchang, the lunar eclipse on March 25 will commence at 10:24 am and conclude at 03:01 pm. It should be noted that a penumbral eclipse occurs when Moon passes through Earth's penumbra.

This Holi-lunar eclipse conjunction is a once-in-a-century event, having last occurred in 1924.
Lunar Eclipse on Holi 2024: About Solar Eclipse Occurring in April
The solar eclipse occurring on April 8 also has special significance. At its closest to Moon, it will be the longest total solar eclipse in 50 years, lasting about 7.5 minutes. During this event, Sun's corona will be visible, with observers potentially able to see Jupiter, Venus, and a comet near Earth. The eclipse will begin around 09:12 pm IST and end at 01:20 am, although it will not be visible in India.

Lunar Eclipse on Holi 2024: Where will lunar and solar eclipses be visible?
The lunar eclipse on March 25 will be visible across various regions including North and East Asia, Europe, Australia, Africa, North and South America, the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Antarctica. However, this will not be visible in India.
Whereas, the solar eclipse will be visible in parts of America, Mexico, and Canada, presenting a twilight-like phenomenon during the day.
NASA predicts its first visibility on the Pacific coast of Mexico at 11:07 am, with a total eclipse viewable across 13 American states and a partial eclipse visible in North America.
Lunar Eclipse on Holi 2024: What time will the Sutak period begin?
The Sutak period initiates 9 hours before a lunar eclipse and approximately 12 hours before a solar eclipse. However, as neither eclipse will be visible in India this time, Sutak rules won't apply in the country. It should be noted that - Sutak, regarded as an inauspicious time, prohibits various activities, including worship.
