Holi 2023: Holi is an auspicious festival celebrated in India. Kids wait for Holi to have a splash of colours all over. This year, Holi will be celebrated on March 8 and Holika Dahan on March 7. During Holi, parents should be aware of what kind of colours kids are using as most of these colours contain harmful chemicals and dyes that can cause skin irritation, rashes and allergies.

Here are some tips to have a safe Holi:

  • Use natural, organic colours for children. These colours are made from flowers and herbs and are gentle on the skin. One can also use Chandan powder to celebrate Holi
  • Parents should make kids wear old clothes. Dress kids in long-sleeved shirts and full-length pants to protect their skin from the sun and harmful colours.
  • Ask children to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from colours.
  • Kids should avoid rubbing their eyes with colours in their hands as it may cause a corneal abrasion.
  • While playing Holi, kids should keep themselves hydrated. Make sure they drink plenty of water.
  • Kids should avoid playing Holi with water balloons. It might cause injuries.
  • Make sure kids stay safe and do not engage in any risky behaviour.
  • After the Holi celebrations, kids should remove their body colours.  Use soup which is kids' skin type to prevent skin irritation.
  • Ask kids to play Holi gently and with care.
  • Apply a layer of coconut oil or cream all over their body and face. Oil will allow removing colour easily.
