Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai: Schools and colleges to remain shut in city on July 9 as BMC declares holiday

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) - one of the largest municipal corporations in India responsible for providing a range of civic services to the residents of Mumbai - on Monday declared a holiday in schools and colleges the next day, July 9, in view of heavy rainfall in the city. The decision by the civic body followed a red alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) - the national weather agency - for Mumbai.

"All schools and colleges in Mumbai have been declared a holiday for tomorrow Tuesday, 9th July 2024, in consideration of the safety of students," the BMC wrote on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) late on Monday. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai.

In view of this, all schools and colleges in Mumbai have been declared a holiday for tomorrow Tuesday, 9th July 2024, in consideration of the safety of students.

Earlier on Monday, a downpour in the city disrupted multitudes of services including flight and train operations owing to harsh weather conditions.

Flight operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were affected as the city recorded heavy rainfall, causing traffic jams and waterlogging.
