Health ministry launches SBI-AIIMS New Delhi Smart Card for cashless transactions at hospital; know how to use it
The new smart card will be rolled out in phases at AIIMS, New Delhi. Accordingly, the SBI Smart card payment system has been implemented in the Staff Cafeteria, AIIMS, in the first phase w.e.f. December 12, 2023, for AIIMS employees. In the second phase, the smart card has been implemented for all patients at the Mother & Child Block w.e.f. February 12, 2024.
In order to make transactions for various services at AIIMS, New Delhi, cashless, the central government on Monday (February 12, 2024) launched a smart card called AIIMS-SBI digital patient care card. The card does away cash payments at the AIIMS for any patient services, including the canteen. A patient can deposit amount in this card and recharge it at various points in different blocks at AIIMS.
The smart card was launched by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in the presence of M Srinivas, Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, and General Manager, SBI, Manjeet Singh. The health minister said that this is the first step towards "One Nation, One AIIMS, One Card" .
"Soon this will be extended to other AIIMS too," Mandaviya said.
"Many patients come from far away places and carry cash with them for various services. Now, all transactions will be cashless and this card will be used. On completion of the treatment, the remaining amount in the card will be transferred back to the patient 's account or given back in cash. This will prove to be a game-changer in patient care, he added.
Where one can use SBI-AIIMS smart card

What will SBI-AIIMS card cost?
The SBI-AIIMS Smart Card is being provided free of cost to all patients and has no service charges.
Where will SBI-AIIMS card be available?
All patients can receive Smart Card from defined Smart Card counters situated at the ground floor, Mother & Child Block & Smart card issuance counter, Staff Cafeteria.
How will SBI-AIIMS card be activated?
For issuance of the smart card, a patient/employee will be required to give their UHID generated at AIIMS. Upon provision of the UHID, patient will receive an OTP on their registered mobile number, which will be provided at the counter for activation of the card.
The Smart Card once topped up and activated can be used for payment at different cash counters on a 24x7 basis for services availed at the institute.
