There was a lot of chaos on Twitter on Friday when Elon Musk finally removed all legacy verified accounts with blue check marks but allowed some celebrities to retain them.
Friday morning brought quite a shock for many verified Twitter users with a blue tick, as they suddenly found that their Twitter accounts don’t have the blue tick anymore, the sign of the verified user's account. What was more shocking was that Twitter didn't spare celebrities as renowned as Bill Gates, Ratan Tata, and Shah Rukh Khan, who too lost their blue ticks today.
Celebrities who lost blue tick
Celebrities across various domains, ranging from business tycoons to film stars to cricketers, lost the status of verified Twitter accounts today. There was a lot of chaos on Twitter on Friday when Elon Musk finally removed all legacy verified accounts with blue check marks but allowed some celebrities to retain them. As more than 4 lakh legacy verified users bid goodbye to blue check marks, some celebrities have been offered a complimentary Twitter Blue subscription "on behalf of Musk".

Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Jon Stewart, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sunidhi Chauhan

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Saina Nehwal
Celebrities still with blue tick
Very few celebrities who still have the blue tick on their profiles include Sonam Kapoor from India and globally renowned singers Nick Jonas and David Guetta.
Why the sudden removal
Twitter CEO Elon Musk had earlier announced that the blue tick would be removed from all Twitter accounts unless the account holders paid for the Twitter Blue service. He also said that the blue tick system had created two classes of Twitter users. So, as soon as he took over Twitter, Musk started selling the blue tick. He said that anyone could now purchase the blue tick by paying around an $8 monthly fee.
