Recently, global FMCG giant Unilever Plc has recalled some popular brands after it was discovered that they had benzene-related contamination, according to the IANS report. It should be noted that benzene may cause cancer.

These include dry shampoo from brands like Dove and Tresemme. Besides, other brands that have been recalled include Nexus, Suave, and Tiggy. They are Rockaholic and Bed Head dry shampoos, according to a notice posted on the US Food and Drug Administration's website.

Products that have been manufactured before October 2021 are mainly recalled, IANS report said. But this move has raised questions on the safety of aerosols in personal hygiene products.

Several other comparable products, such as Johnson & Johnson's Neutrogena, Edgewell Personal Care Co.'s Banana Boat, and Beiersdorf AG's Coppertone, have been recalled in the previous 18 months in addition to the one from Unilever, according to IANS.

The propellants used to spray the personal care items from the cans are the major source of the issue. As per the IANS report, Unilever said that this was the situation with its dry shampoo recall.
