Dol Purnima March 2023: According to the Hindu calendar, Purnima is the full moon day and coincides either with festivals or Jayanti days. This year, Dol Purnima also known as Vasant Purnima or Phalguna Purnima 2023 will be observed on March 7, and Holi– one of the most significant and popular Hindu festivals, is observed during Dhol Purnima. Dol Purnima is also coinciding with Lakshmi Jayanti – the birth anniversary of the Hindu Goddess of wealth and prosperity.

According to Drik Panchang, the tithi for Dol Purnima began on March 6 at 4:17 am and will end on March 7 at 6:09 pm.

Dol Purnima March 2023: Puja rituals 

Devotees observe a day-long fast on Dol Purnima and perform Satya Narayan Puja which is believed to bring happiness, wealth and prosperity in one’s life. Devotees also observe a fast and only consume food items like milk, fruit, juices and water. They worship Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, Navgarh on Dol Purnima. After the puja devotees consume prasad and break their fast and offer prayers to the moon. 

Some devotees also perform Maha Mrityunjaya Havan to please Lord Vishnu and other deities. 

Dol Purnima March 2023: Significance of full moon day

Purnima, the full moon day, is considered auspicious in the Hindu calendar, and most devotees fast and pray to Lord Vishnu, throughout the day. They only eat light food at dusk after a full day of fasting, prayers, and a dip in the river.

Fasting or eating light food on full and new moon days is recommended because it is said to reduce acidic content in our systems, slow down metabolic rate, and increase endurance. This restores balance to the body and mind. Praying, too, aids in the control of emotions and temper outbursts.
